Lake Point Tower in Chicago has the unique distinction of being the only downtown skyscraper to be located east of Lake Shore Drive. Designed by John Heinrich and George Schipporeit (students of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe) the building completed in 1968 and was the tallest apartment building in the world at that point in time at 645 feet. Its unusual shape inspired the design of the Burj Khalifa by Chicago-based architect Adrian Smith.
Fun facts: Lake Point Tower has had a number of famous residents including Alice Cooper, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.
